As parents we spend countless hours reading our little ones books. It is a part of childhood that everyone experiences, and we will always remember those few books we really loved growing up. I feel like we go through books like groceries in our house! So many books! Our son especially, loves to read. He can memorize an entire book cover to cover, and read it to you while you turn the pages. It’s incredible! He is absolutely a little sponge for learning. I am telling you, he will be smarter than me in about five years. I will be the one needing a tutor to help me with his homework assignments! Lord help me.
I try to rotate the book collection every so often, but it gets hard to find the good books that they love. I wanted to create a short list of the books we think are great! My kids love them, and they don’t make me and my husband want to pull all our hair out if we have to read them multiple times a day. We have a one-year-old and a four-year-old in our home, and they both love these books! Here they are in no particular order. (This post does contain some affiliate links)
The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear
We LOVE this book. Some of the pages were ripped out years ago by my son, and we still read it. We have had it since Kade was a baby. Big and beautiful illustrations, and what kid doesn’t love to read about strawberries?? This one is a must buy!
I am sure you all know and love this little book already, I had to add it to the list because it’s so dang cute. A small board book that all the kids can’t get enough of. Another book about food… are we seeing a theme? We all like to eat in our house. A lot.
Oh, that Sally, she is just so silly. She goes to town, walking backward upside down. I mean, how much more entertaining can it really get? This one is super cute!
This one is a fun, little lift-the-flap book. Lots of animals inside for them to learn to recognize. My little girl does all the animal noises when she sees them, and loves to lift up the tabs. This book has been around for 30 years! Perfect for the little ones.
We love this fun rhyming book that takes you through the alphabet. Lots of colors, and the kids think it’s a hoot! Great for all ages.
More food! This time dessert! Another great book that has been around for 30+ years. I feel as though books like this one can help our little ones to read. There aren’t a ton of words, which allow them to connect the words specifically to the pictures on the page. I believe it’s helped our son recognize words, along with some of the other books listed.
Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes
Cute cat, cute story, makes school seem fun! We sing the words in this book and dance a little jig.
My Son absolutely LOVES trains…so what kind of Mom would I be if I didn’t include a book about trains on this list? This one is well written, entertaining and perfect for preschool age.
I hope your kids love these books as much as mine do! If you have any favorites in your home, please do share! I need all the Mama help I can get, in the child-entertainment area. Ha!
Happy Reading!
XOXO,
I remember these books! This is a really great selection!
I used to love “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” when I was a kid. I’m glad to see that I’m not so old that kids think that book is lame.
Haha! I guess we aren’t really considered old YET 😉
My son LOVES The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Dear Zoo. Such classics.
Yay! Both are great books
